Sthala Mahātmyam
The Trinetra Ganesh temple stands within the historic Ranthambore Fort in Sawai Madhopur district, revered as one of Rajasthan's oldest and most famous Ganesha shrines and unusual in enshrining the Lord together with his entire family. Sthala mahatmya: during the prolonged siege of Ranthambore by Alauddin Khilji around 1299-1301 CE, King Hammira Dev's provisions were running low; Ganesha appeared in the king's dream promising an end to his troubles, and the next morning a three-eyed (trinetra) image of Ganesha emerged self-formed upon a wall of the fort. The stores were replenished and the deity has been worshipped there ever since. What sets the shrine apart is that Ganesha is enshrined with his consorts Riddhi and Siddhi and his two sons Shubh and Labh, the whole family together. Devotees across India post letters and wedding invitations to the temple, seeking the Lord's blessing so that, as remover of obstacles, he graces their auspicious occasions first. Festivals: Ganesh Chaturthi in Bhadrapada is celebrated with a huge fair drawing lakhs of pilgrims, along with Vinayaka Chaturthi.
