The Life
Born at Thirucchangamangai in a region thick with Buddhist monks, this seeker studied many creeds and outwardly took the Buddhist robe, yet his heart turned wholly to Shiva. One day, passing a lingam, he flung a stone at it in a sudden surge of love; reflecting on it, he took this as the Lord's own chosen form of worship for him. Thereafter he would not take food before casting a single stone at the lingam each day as his offering. Once, having sat down to eat forgetful of his rite, he sprang up, hungry and remorseful, and hurried to hurl his daily stone. Pleased by a devotion expressed through so strange an act done in utter sincerity, Shiva appeared before him, blessed him, and granted him a place at His feet.
