Set in the forested Alagar Hills north of Madurai, Pazhamudircholai is the sylvan abode where Murugan, as a mischievous cowherd boy, humbled the great poet Avvaiyar with the riddle of the naaval (jamun) fruit — 'ripe, or unripe?' It is the only one of the six abodes where the Lord is enshrined with both his consorts, Valli and Deivanai. Amid springs and groves, it is the forest home of Valli and the final abode of the Arupadai Veedu.
